Motherwell is a digital publication that tells all sides of the parenting story and home to the most thought-provoking and insightful content on family life, culture, obstacles and the process of overcoming them.
At Motherwell, we believe that modern parenting is a complicated entity and, as such, every single mom and dad out there has a unique voice that can contribute to our understanding of it. This means we feel strongly about showcasing a full spectrum of parenting experiences, but also that we do not shy away from conflicting perspectives.
The idea of a well conjures up images of community, of depth, of the essential nature of water. Motherwell is exactly this: a place for parents to gather, to think deeply and, hopefully, it is a community that you will keep coming back to, over and over again, for sustenance.
Lauren Apfel and Randi Olin, co-founders and executive editors
Lauren is a writer, editor, expat, classicist, INTJ, and mother of four kids (the last two of whom are twins). She is also a lover of memoir, TV drama, and a very cold glass of champagne. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Time.com, and McSweeney’s, among other places.
Randi Olin is a writer, editor, soon-to-be empty nester, and an unexpected chocolate lab aficionado. She enjoys TV shows that make her laugh (out loud), naming songs in as few notes as possible, and finding the perfect eggplant parmesan. Before Motherwell, she was the Managing Editor at Brain, Child Magazine. Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Modern Loss, Brain, Child Magazine among other publications.
